On the 14th, North Korea launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) with a range of 3,000 to 5,500 km into the East Sea.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that "at around 2:55 p.m. today, one missile presumed to be an IRBM was detected launched from the Pyongyang area toward the East Sea."

The Joint Chiefs added, "Our military is analyzing the detailed specifications in close cooperation with the U.S. and Japan," and explained, "We are maintaining full readiness while closely sharing information related to the launched North Korean missile with U.S. and Japanese authorities."

This ballistic missile provocation by North Korea comes 27 days after the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch on December 18 last year.

Meanwhile, according to Japan's public broadcaster NHK and Kyodo News, Japan's Ministry of Defense estimated that the North Korean missile fell outside its exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
