From January 7 to 15, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk formed a delegation led by Mayor Kim Jang-ho to visit Las Vegas, Denver, and LA in the United States. The delegation attended the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), visited global fountain design and target investment companies, and held exchanges with local economic organizations to observe trends in innovative technology development and promote investment attraction activities.

On the 8th local time, the delegation visited WET (Water Entertainment Technologies), a global company specializing in the design and construction of special fountains, meeting with company officials including Teresa Caldwell, CDO (Chief Development Officer), and Andrea Silva, Head of Design. They introduced Gumi City and discussed various tourism infrastructure development projects currently underway in the city.


At this meeting, Gumi City explained its transformation into a romantic cultural city and listened to WET officials’ opinions on creating unique landmarks specific to Gumi. These insights will be actively reflected in future local tourism infrastructure development.


On the 9th, the delegation visited Las Vegas, where CES was held, and sequentially visited representative local companies LG Display, LG Electronics, and LG Innotek to explore innovative technologies. They hosted a new industry forum by inviting domestic robotics companies (Bear Robotics and WeRobotics), and subsequently signed a “Mutual Agreement for the Development of Gumi’s Robotics Industry” with four leading domestic robotics companies: LG Electronics, LIG Nex1, WeRobotics, and Gu-il Engineering. The agreement commits the companies to cooperate in establishing a robotics industry ecosystem centered in Gumi, focusing on parts localization and professional workforce development.


On the 10th, the delegation visited the Gyeongbuk Eureka Pavilion and joint exhibition hall, where they toured innovative products and encouraged company representatives from local participating companies ALNT, Poined, and HexHive. They also explored new technological developments at the Samsung Electronics booth, a global company located in the area.


After attending the exhibition, the delegation held a “Gumi DAY Networking” event with local U.S. companies and related organizations. They provided detailed information on Gumi National Industrial Complex and local investment infrastructure, actively promoting corporate investment. At this event, Gumi City emphasized its stable business operation environment compared to the metropolitan area, including excellent industrial water and power supply, as well as advanced strategic industry infrastructure in semiconductors and defense.


On the 11th, the delegation moved to Denver to visit target investment company A and conducted investment consultations. During this visit, Mayor Kim Jang-ho expressed gratitude to company officials who have long shown interest and investment in Gumi. He highlighted Gumi as an optimal location for advanced strategic industries such as semiconductors and defense, requesting large-scale additional investments in the region. In response, company officials stated they would closely consult with Gumi City for future investments.


On the 12th, the delegation traveled to LA and held a meeting with local Korean-American businesspeople. They requested cooperation to activate future economic exchange activities with Gumi City and engaged in exchanges with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Association in America, CES participating companies, and others, strengthening networking to establish a smooth cooperative system with Gumi City.


Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “This visit to the United States was an opportunity to confirm the global trends in innovative technology development for 2024 and explore development plans for Gumi’s advanced strategic industries. In particular, I believe that by establishing mutual cooperation systems with leading companies in the robotics field, Gumi has created an opportunity to take the lead in building a robotics industry ecosystem.” He added, “We will thoroughly follow up after returning home to create top landmarks like the Bellagio fountains and achieve visible results and development in strategic industries such as semiconductors and defense.”
