The Eomgung and Banyeo Agricultural Products Wholesale Markets opened in 1993 and 2000 respectively, distributing more than 90% of Busan citizens' demand for fruits and vegetables and contributing to price stabilization of agricultural products, thus playing a central role in the distribution of agricultural products in the Busan area.

The market-specific performance is ▲Eomgung Agricultural Products Wholesale Market: 339,000 tons, 575.8 billion KRW ▲Banyeo Agricultural Products Wholesale Market: 240,000 tons, 554.3 billion KRW. This amount is approximately 6.5 times higher than the transaction amount of 174.7 billion KRW in 1994, the first year of operation of Busan's public wholesale markets.

The city analyzed that this achievement was influenced by efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the wholesale markets through continuous development of production areas and active attraction of high-quality agricultural products shipments despite difficult economic conditions last year, as well as price increases in some agricultural products.

This year, the city plans to improve facilities and the environment to prevent inconvenience to wholesale market visitors and strengthen activities to attract shipments of high-quality agricultural products to stably supply healthy and safe agricultural products to citizens.

Furthermore, to respond to changes in consumption structure and distribution environment such as the increase in single-person households and changes in consumption patterns, and to become a center for supplying safe future food, the city intends to promote modernization and relocation of facilities into a citizen-friendly future-oriented wholesale market.

Kim Byung-gi, Director of the Marine Agriculture and Fisheries Bureau, stated, “Despite difficult economic conditions last year, Busan’s public agricultural products wholesale markets achieved transaction amounts exceeding 1 trillion KRW for four consecutive years, fulfilling their role as a representative public market for agricultural product distribution in Busan.” He added, “We will continue to make greater efforts to supply agricultural products that citizens can consume with confidence.”
