[CES 2024] AI Excavators and Remote-Controlled Wheel Loaders... HD Hyundai Shows the Future of Construction Machinery

HD Hyundai will showcase technological innovations in future infrastructure construction that transcend the limits of time and space at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, USA.

HD Hyundai will participate in CES 2024, held over four days starting on the 9th (local time). The HD Hyundai exhibition hall, located in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), has nearly doubled in size to 300 pyeong compared to last year’s 180 pyeong.

HD Hyundai has set the core theme of this exhibition as ‘Xite Transformation.’ Xite Transformation is a land-based innovation vision aimed at solving humanity’s challenges such as safety and security, supply chain establishment, and climate change. To demonstrate this, the exhibition hall features a blueprint of future construction sites utilizing unmanned autonomous technologies.

The exhibition area is organized into three themes: ▲Future Xite, ▲Twin Xite, and ▲Zero Xite. Visitors can experience the future construction site firsthand through expert demonstrations remotely controlling a wheel loader located about 3,000 km away in Atlanta, operating the wheel loader themselves via simulators, and enjoying VR twin experiences.

An 18-meter wide by 4.5-meter tall LED screen displays an Autonomous Site that analyzes field information based on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies to establish optimal work plans and provide equipment operation and safety management functions.

In front of the screen, a 4.5-meter tall unmanned excavator welcomes visitors. This driverless excavator recognizes surrounding obstacles and works safely on its own through wide-angle radar sensors and a smart around-view monitoring system. Equipped with four independent wheels, it can easily climb steep hills and separate workers from hazardous areas to ensure safety, representing future-oriented equipment.

HD Hyundai plans to seek opportunities in emerging future technology areas such as unmanned autonomous technology and aims to leap forward as a top-tier company in the global market.

In 2018, HD Hyundai was the first in the world to demonstrate 5G remote control technology for construction machinery across countries, and in 2019, it successfully demonstrated ‘Concept-X,’ a comprehensive control solution that unmanned and automates all construction site operations from terrain surveying to construction machinery operation.

An HD Hyundai official said, “At CES 2024, we have prepared to showcase various smart construction solutions applicable to future construction sites all in one space,” adding, “HD Hyundai will lead technological innovation for sustainable infrastructure construction for humanity.”

Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Vice Chairman Jeong Ki-seon will be the only domestic company executive to deliver a keynote speech at CES 2024, scheduled for 9 a.m. on the 10th (local time) at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.
