People Power Party Appoints Jeong Young-hwan as Public Relations Committee Chair... Lee Sang-min, Park Sang-soo Among New Recruits

On the 8th, the People Power Party decided at the Emergency Response Committee meeting to appoint Professor Jeong Young-hwan of Korea University Law School as the chairman of the general election nomination management committee.

Park Jeong-ha, the party's chief spokesperson, told reporters immediately after the meeting, "Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee chairman, introduced Chairman Jeong as a good person with a sense of balance." Chairman Jeong graduated from Gangneung High School and Korea University, and was commissioned as a judge at the Ulsan Branch of the Busan District Court in 1989. He has served as a judge at the Seoul High Court and as a judicial research officer at the Supreme Court. In November last year, he was included in the final candidate pool for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Chairman Han said about Chairman Jeong, "Personally, I do not know him," but added, "I have found that the results were better when we appointed someone with a well-established reputation rather than someone I personally knew."

On the same day, the People Power Party held an induction ceremony for the Talent Recruitment Committee and recruited lawyer Park Sang-soo and former president of the Korea Federation of Teachers' Associations (KFTA), Jeong Seong-guk, as talents for next year's general election. Former President Jeong said, "I understand that I was recruited to play a valuable role in laying the foundation for the normalization of public education. I will become a catalyst for victory in the general election."

Lawyer Park expressed his aspirations, saying, "Schools are completely collapsing due to ideal legal systems and those legal systems. I will pour all I have into creating a generation where the next generation can live better." Along with them, former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Bang-kyu, former 2nd Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Kim Wan-seop, and Professor Lee Soo-jung of Kyonggi University also joined the party.

Meanwhile, the People Power Party Emergency Committee decided to nominate only one candidate, Park Ji-yong (48), senior deputy spokesperson of the Daegu City Party, for the by-election of Daegu Jung-gu Council to be held on the 31st. This by-election is being held due to the loss of councilor positions by Lee Kyung-sook of the Democratic Party and Kwon Kyung-sook of the People Power Party. Both ruling and opposition parties agreed not to nominate candidates who bear responsibility for their party's fault.
