According to the electronics industry on the 3rd, CES 2024, held from the 9th to the 12th at the Las Vegas Convention Center in the United States (local time), will attract the largest number of visitors since 2020 (180,000 people). Approximately 130,000 attendees are expected, with some forecasts suggesting it could reach 150,000 (KB Securities).

As the entire industry’s attention is focused on this event, both the exhibition scale and the number of participating companies have significantly increased. The exhibition area has grown by 46% to 242,000 square meters compared to last year, and more than 4,000 companies, a 67% increase, have been listed as participants.

This year’s CES theme is ‘All Together. All On.’ It signifies showcasing technologies that solve humanity’s problems and improve quality of life. The core keyword is ‘AI.’ As AI adoption accelerates across all industries, this event will provide an opportunity to observe related technology trends at a glance. While previous CES events offered a taste of some services and products with AI features, this year consumers are expected to encounter a variety of AI products that enhance their experience.

Sam-il PwC Management Research Institute recently highlighted in a report that attention should be paid to the ‘AI-ization of all industries’ at this year’s CES. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which hosts CES, added an AI category to the CES Innovation Awards for the first time this year, reflecting the industry trend. Dongwon Kim, a researcher at KB Securities, stated, "The generative AI market, which began with ChatGPT in 2023, will expand from 2024 into all industrial applications such as electrical and electronics, autonomous driving, finance, security, and robotics. The market size is expected to grow rapidly from 6 trillion won in 2023 to 280 trillion won in 2030, a 47-fold increase."

The electronics industry plans to reflect these industrial trends at this year’s CES. Samsung Electronics will hold a press conference on the 8th, the day before the opening, with Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee, head of the DX division, as a speaker. Under the theme ‘AI for Everyone: Smart Hyperconnected Experiences in Daily Life,’ the company will detail its AI strategy. Samsung will showcase various products equipped with its recently developed generative AI model ‘Gauss.’ At the exhibition booth, it will unveil for the first time a robot vacuum cleaner (Bespoke Jet Bot Combo) enhanced with AI technology for object recognition and driving performance.

LG Electronics will present the concept of a ‘Future Smart Home’ at CES, which goes beyond basic AI that recognizes human speech to AI that broadly understands and assists consumers’ lives. AI-enabled home appliances will detect consumers’ heart rate and respiration, automatically adjusting indoor temperature and humidity. LG will also unveil the ‘Smart Home AI Agent’ for the first time, which incorporates advanced robotics and AI technology. This product, resembling a robot and conceptualized as a companion home appliance, moves around the house on two wheels using autonomous driving technology to assist with various household tasks.

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will each unveil new laptops equipped with AI-dedicated processors at CES. These products realize the concept of on-device AI, allowing users to enjoy various AI services without network connectivity. They are expected to help revive demand in the laptop market.
