<Gyeongbok> Claims Innocence, G-Dragon Cleared of Drug Charges... Police Decide 'No Suspicion' and Dismiss Case

G-Dragon (35, real name Kwon Ji-yong), a member of the group Big Bang and a solo singer, has been cleared of drug use allegations.

The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Unit announced on the 19th that on the 18th, Kwon, who was suspected of violating the Narcotics Control Act, was dismissed without indictment due to 'no suspicion.'

Fashion entrepreneur Kwon Dami, the wife of actor Kim Min-jun and Kwon's sister, mentioned the related article and left words of support for G-Dragon. She posted a screenshot of the article about G-Dragon being cleared of drug charges on her social media, writing, "How much better will you do next year? Fighting."

Earlier, Kwon Ji-yong had been under investigation for allegedly using drugs at a nightlife establishment in Gangnam at the end of last year. The police investigated entertainers who visited the nightlife venue with Kwon and employees of the establishment as witnesses but failed to obtain meaningful testimony.

Subsequently, on the 6th of last month, the police summoned Kwon for a preliminary drug test and requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service, but no drug substances were detected. Since being booked without detention on drug use charges in October, Kwon has actively denied the allegations, stating he did not use drugs. Last month, he voluntarily appeared for questioning by the police, saying, "I will promptly resolve my grievances through a swift investigation to uncover the substantive truth."

After voluntarily appearing before the police, G-Dragon posted an image on his Instagram with the phrase ‘Sapilgwijeong’ (事必歸正).

The image contained the message: “All things eventually return to the right principle. At first, right and wrong may not be distinguished, and improper matters may temporarily prevail or gain power, but it does not last long, and all things inevitably return to the right principle.”

A (29, female), the manager of the Gangnam nightlife establishment who was the starting point of Kwon’s investigation, has been indicted and detained on drug use charges. She initially testified about G-Dragon’s drug use but later retracted her statement, saying she did not directly see him using drugs.

The police have re-applied for an arrest warrant for Dr. B, a plastic surgeon in Gangnam, Seoul, who is suspected of providing narcotics to actor Lee Sun-kyun (48).

Previously, the police had applied for an arrest warrant for Dr. B, but the court dismissed it, stating that it was difficult to recognize the necessity of detention. The substantive hearing for Dr. B’s arrest warrant is scheduled for the afternoon of the 20th.
