Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold a 1st anniversary event for the opening of the miniature diorama exhibition hall "Nowon Train Village Swiss Pavilion" located in Hwarangdae Railroad Park.
The Nowon Train Village Swiss Pavilion is a miniature exhibition hall that faithfully reproduces the villages and trains of Switzerland, a world-renowned tourist destination. In addition to a 4.4m tall model of the Matterhorn in the Alps and 17 train models scaled down to 1/87 of actual size, the exhibition features familiar stories for children such as Heidi, the Alpine girl, and the Lucerne Carnival, offering a rich visual experience that captivates visitors.
As of October, the cumulative number of visitors was confirmed to be approximately 97,000, including about 37,000 local residents (38%) and 60,000 visitors from other districts and cities (62%). In response to the enthusiastic support from visitors, the district plans to hold a commemorative event featuring special train exhibitions and hands-on programs to attract even more visitors.
The event will be held from the 18th to the 19th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., both inside the Train Village Exhibition Hall and in the outdoor space.
First, inside the exhibition hall, a 4-meter-long steam locomotive (one unit) that is rarely seen will be added. This steam locomotive was specially made by a professional train manufacturer and emits steam like a real steam locomotive, with operational functions that allow visitors to closely observe the locomotive in action.
A surprise challenge using the diorama called "Find the Hidden Figures" will also take place. Only visitors holding an event ticket distributed upon admission can participate. Those who find and photograph at least 7 out of 10 hidden figures within the diorama and present the photos at the verification desk will receive a train model magnet as a souvenir. The giveaway is limited to 1,500 per day on a first-come, first-served basis and will end once supplies run out.
The outdoor event area in front of the Train Village Exhibition Hall will feature a special exhibition zone, two types of experience booths, and a photo zone.
In the special exhibition zone, newly displayed items include a large 150cm train (one piece), a small 92cm train (one piece), a hologram train (one piece), and four dioramas, none of which were previously available in the Train Village Exhibition Hall.
At the experience booths, two activities will be offered for kindergarteners and lower-grade elementary school students: making KTX paper model trains and train coloring play. Using coloring sheets containing train information, children can color the trains and learn interesting facts about their favorite trains, making it a great activity for families with children.
Finally, a photo zone set up at one side of the event area features a large train panel measuring 6.8m wide and 1.8m high, allowing visitors to create joyful memories during their visit.
The district is currently working on adding the "Train Village Exhibition Hall - Italy Pavilion," scheduled for completion in 2025. This pavilion will showcase landmarks of major Italian tourist cities through detailed dioramas, presenting Italy’s history and cityscapes as they are.
The "Train Village Exhibition Hall - Italy Pavilion" will be more than three times larger than the Swiss Pavilion, which was somewhat limited in size. The district expects that once completed, the Italy Pavilion will create a synergistic effect in conjunction with the Swiss Pavilion.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “The Nowon Train Village - Swiss Pavilion, which has provided special joy to children and nostalgic journeys to adults, is already celebrating its first anniversary. We will continue to develop the Train Village as a representative tourist attraction of the district by adding various attractions such as the Nowon Train Village - Italy Pavilion, scheduled for completion in 2025.”
