KCSC: "What Would Ordinary Consumers Think?"
NS Home Shopping: "No More Appearances by Jung Yoon-jung"

The planned return of show host Jung Yoon-jung, who caused controversy by using profanity during a live broadcast, has been canceled.

According to NS Home Shopping on the 20th, Jung was scheduled to appear as a guest on the Nature & Nature 'Derma Cure Bebe Cream' sales broadcast on the 21st, but the programming was replaced.

On January 28, Jung appeared on a live broadcast on Hyundai Home Shopping selling cosmetics and caused controversy by uttering the profanity “ssiX.” At the time, she expressed frustration, complaining that although the cosmetics she was selling had sold out, the broadcast could not be ended early.

She also complained, saying, “Travel products are only broadcast for a fixed amount of time. Why the hell is it travel again?” referring to the travel product broadcast scheduled afterward.

Despite viewer complaints at the time, Jung dismissed them lightly. She said, “Should I make a correction? I’m good at corrections,” and added, “I apologize for sometimes using inappropriate language during broadcasts, but please see it as entertainment. Shouldn’t home shopping enter the entertainment era?” which further fueled the controversy.

Subsequently, Hyundai Home Shopping received a legal sanction decision from the Korea Communications Standards Commission’s Advertising Review Subcommittee, and Hyundai Home Shopping imposed an indefinite ban on Jung’s appearances, effectively expelling her from the industry.

However, Jung recently revealed on her SNS that she personally visited NS Home Shopping to hold a meeting related to selling Nature & Nature products. As a freelance show host, she was not affiliated with NS Home Shopping but was scheduled to appear as a Nature & Nature sales guest on NS Home Shopping.

When news of Jung’s return surfaced less than six months after her broadcast suspension, netizens reacted negatively. In response, the Korea Communications Standards Commission stepped in directly.

On the 20th, Ryu Hee-rim, chairman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, met with representatives of seven TV home shopping companies and said, “We need to deeply consider how consumers would feel about giving a show host who caused a major social controversy a chance to appear on home shopping broadcasts again through irregular means less than six months after sanctions were imposed,” according to multiple attendees.

Following this, NS Home Shopping announced that it would withdraw its plan for Jung’s return within this year.
