The Department of Aircraft Maintenance at Chodang University is unveiling the actual model of the PAV (Personal Air Vehicle), developed in collaboration with the aviation specialist company Teranova Co., Ltd., aiming for market launch, for the first time in Korea at this exhibition.
The design of the manned aircraft unveiled this time features a futuristic look, streamlined yet sophisticatedly completed.
Emphasizing differentiation from existing air mobility, the airframe is produced using 3D printing, powered by lithium-ion batteries, equipped with six BLDC motors in a multicopter configuration, with a system that allows individual operation in emergencies, and digital navigation instruments applied to prepare for future autonomous flight.
Additionally, the exhibition will feature the largest booth among small and medium enterprises, and will display the DA-40 aircraft by Diamond (Austria), used as a flight training aircraft by the Condor Flight Academy for the Department of Aviation Operations.
Jo Young-song, Director of the Regional Innovation Project at Chodang University, said, “PAV is a promising new aviation industry field of the near future. To enhance the competitiveness of Jeonnam’s aviation MRO industrial complex, it is necessary to proactively cultivate talent specialized in piloting, maintenance, and operation management in the Korean-style UAM (Urban Air Mobility) sector.”
Last year, Chodang University also hosted a local government-university aviation specialization forum and conducted an electric propulsion light aircraft manufacturing program, advancing a step ahead in developing safe and eco-friendly aircraft and establishing a future air mobility ecosystem in the small air mobility sector.
It is expected that the commercialization of personal air vehicles will have an economic ripple effect of 500 billion KRW and create employment for over 3,000 people in the future.
