Following its win at the ‘iF Design Award’ last April, SKT has received another grand prize at a globally prestigious design award. SK Telecom announced on the 30th that its growth-oriented AI service developed with customers, ‘A. (hereinafter A.dot)’, won the grand prize in the branding category at ‘IDEA 2023’ held in New York, USA. The ‘IDEA’, initiated by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in 1980, is recognized as one of the world’s top three design awards alongside the ‘iF Design Award’ and the ‘Red Dot Design Award’.
‘A.dot’ symbolizes the ‘A’ of AI and, as the first letter of the alphabet, conveys the meaning of ‘the first brand to open the world.’ It simultaneously expresses SKT’s corporate management values aiming to leap forward as an AI company and its identity as a friendly AI service. Considering the characteristics of ‘A.dot’ as a ‘growth-oriented’ and ‘conversational’ service, SKT analyzed that the differentiated point, which received favorable evaluations, was choosing a design that feels like a living organism rather than simply approaching it as a sculptural design.
In addition to ‘A.dot’, ‘T factory (hereinafter T Factory)’ also won the grand prize at ‘IDEA 2023’ for the design of COVID-19 prevention products introduced in October 2020. SKT achieved awards in two categories at ‘IDEA’. The T Factory prevention products were designed with a focus on naturally guiding visitors’ disinfection experience along their movement paths.
Ye Hee-gang, head of SKT’s brand strategy, said, “We are pleased that SKT’s design capabilities and value have been globally recognized by consecutively winning prestigious design awards such as the IDEA Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, and iF Design Award.” He added, “We will continue to strive to communicate with customers and lead the market through innovative designs that embody SK Telecom’s unique philosophy.”
