Comprehensive logistics company and KOSPI-listed firm Kukbo (CEO Park Chan-ha) announced on the 29th that its subsidiary Kukbo DX has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KT for the establishment of a ‘next-generation data center’ and ‘joint business in AI DX platform and new ICT fields.’
Kukbo’s subsidiary, Kukbo DX, is a real estate development and value-added telecommunications operator specializing in hosting, online storage sharing, and security management. KT is a leading company in the domestic telecommunications sector with outstanding technological capabilities in the AI field.
Through this agreement, the two companies will prioritize the establishment of next-generation data centers in suitable areas such as Gyeonggi Province, fully compliant with government policies on cybersecurity and information security. They are also exploring joint development of pioneering businesses suited for the AI era.
Data centers are being promoted as essential infrastructure in government initiatives such as the recently announced ‘Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon 2040 Metropolitan Area Urban Plan’ and local governments’ ‘Smart City Development’ projects.
A KT representative stated, “Through the agreement with Kukbo DX, we expect to lead the next-generation data center and AI DX platform markets and create business opportunities in new ICT fields.”
Earlier, KT announced plans to commercialize the super-large AI service ‘MIDEUM,’ which has been trained with over 200 billion parameters, within this year in Korea. The next-generation data center is crucial for implementing this service, and if KT succeeds in commercializing the conversational super-large AI service, it is expected to establish itself as a full-fledged data company.
This agreement is anticipated to contribute to strengthening competitiveness and creating new markets by jointly promoting new businesses based on AI technology. The domestic data center market is becoming more active not only with the full-scale entry of global companies but also with the market entry of non-IT companies. The company explained that the collaboration between Kukbo DX and KT will serve as an example of these changes.
Park Chan-ha, CEO of Kukbo, the parent company of Kukbo DX, said, “We are introducing DX (Digital Transformation) into our logistics business to transform into a company leading smart logistics,” adding, “We believe that data centers will become an essential asset for smart logistics, and we will actively cooperate with the projects promoted by Kukbo DX.”
CEO Ahn Hyun-mo of Kukbo DX explained, “The data center currently being promoted will be equipped with enhanced security and efficient, advanced facilities to prepare for the future era,” and added, “In future real estate development projects, we will actively incorporate KT’s AI DX platform and ICT know-how to advance the business.”
