Convicted Habitual Fare Dodger with Prior Similar Offenses Sentenced to Prison, Committing Offense About Once a Month After Release

A man in his 50s who repeatedly committed fare evasion about once a month even after being released from prison for fraud was sentenced to prison in the first trial.

According to the legal community on the 26th, Judge Lee Jong-kwang of Criminal Division 4 at the Seoul Northern District Court sentenced Im Mo (50), who was tried for fraud, to 1 year and 6 months in prison on the 11th. Mr. A was also sentenced to 10 months in prison for fraud in March of last year. The court explained the sentencing reason, stating, "Im has multiple prior convictions for similar crimes, committed several offenses during the recidivism period for similar crimes, and has not made any restitution to the victims."

After being released from Seoul Eastern Detention Center on October 16 of last year, Im committed a total of five fare evasions until March. On November 13 of the same year, less than a month after his release, he received food worth 115,000 won at a sashimi restaurant in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi Province. About ten days later, on November 24, he fraudulently obtained alcohol and side dishes worth 100,000 won at a pub in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province. On March 15, he also received whiskey, beer, and other alcohol and side dishes worth 1,022,000 won at a pub in Nowon-gu, Seoul.
