The police have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 20s who was carrying a weapon at the Seoul Gangnam Express Bus Terminal.
On the 5th, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A at around 10:15 p.m. on charges of special intimidation and attempted murder.
The police responded to a security guard's report at 10:39 a.m. on the 4th stating, "There is a man carrying a knife at the express bus terminal," and confiscated two weapons. Mr. A was apprehended at around 10:45 a.m. on the first floor of the Gyeongbu Line building at the Seoul Express Bus Terminal.
The police conducted a comprehensive investigation including CCTV analysis, witness interviews, and mobile phone forensics to verify the circumstances and reasons why Mr. A was carrying the knives. In particular, they confirmed that Mr. A had posted on social networking services (SNS) a message threatening to stab and kill police officers, and carried out additional investigations.
The police plan to focus all their efforts on swiftly apprehending and thoroughly investigating acts of weapon-related violence and threatening posts that cause public anxiety, and to impose strict punishment.
