Wonjun is showing strong performance. As secondary battery material companies continue to perform well, interest seems to be expanding toward Wonjun, which has secured POSCO Future M as a major client.
At 9:51 AM on the 26th, Wonjun was trading at 28,050 KRW, up 10.43% from the previous day.
Shim Wonyong, a researcher at Shinhan Investment Corp., explained, "The benefits of cathode material capacity expansion are becoming concrete," adding, "Cathode material companies are aggressively expanding capacity both domestically and internationally to secure long-term supply contracts and respond to local demand."
He continued, "The combined production capacity target of the four major domestic cathode material companies is 1.18 million tons by 2025, and each company aims for over 500,000 tons after 2028," adding, "It is possible to expand market share while responding to key clients."
Kim Jaeyoon, a researcher at the Korea IR Association, analyzed, "Wonjun has a track record of supplying heat treatment equipment to the majority of cathode material manufacturers," and "POSCO Future M is establishing a joint venture with GM in Pohang, building cathode material and precursor production plants in the North American region."
He added, "Due to new factory investments by clients, there is a high possibility of orders for cathode material calcination furnaces in Pohang and North America."
Wonjun has a lineup of heat treatment equipment for various materials including cathode materials, anode materials, and MLCC. Researcher Kim said, "In the case of anode material heat treatment equipment, they have succeeded in mass production of heat treatment equipment for new silicon anode materials from traditional artificial graphite anode materials," and predicted, "The global silicon-based anode material market is expected to grow from 4,000 tons in 2022 to 200,000 tons by 2030." He added, "Wonjun secured ultra-high temperature heat treatment technology by acquiring Germany's Eisenmann in 2020," and "They succeeded in exporting pilot heat treatment equipment for all-solid-state batteries."
