Yongsan-gu Advances Hyochang Park Trail Development Project
Long-Awaited Resident Project Gains Momentum After 5 Years
2km Trail from Subway Line 6 Hyochang Park Front Station to Hyochang Stadium and Hyochang Park... Completion in 2024
5 Billion KRW Invested for Sidewalk Expansion and Nighttime Lighting Improvements
Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) is officially advancing the 'Hyochang Park Trail Development' after five years. The trail development is one of the campaign pledges of the 8th local government administration.
The Hyochang Park Trail is included in the 'Hyochang Independence 100-Year Park Development' plan. The 100-Year Park project was jointly planned by Seoul City and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs in 2018 but failed to pass the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance last year.
The district secured 3.5 billion KRW out of the total 5 billion KRW project budget to independently promote the 'creation of a walkable street around Hyochang Park,' a long-standing resident demand.
The Hyochang Park Trail is approximately 2 km long, connecting Subway Line 6 Hyochang Park Front Station, Hyochang Stadium, and the surroundings of Hyochang Park.
The district began construction on May 22 for the first section, Hyochangwon-ro (from Hyochang Park Front Station to Sookmyung Women’s University roundabout). For the second section, Imjeong-ro (from the Yongsan-gu Senior Specialized Nursing Home to Hyochang-dong Community Center), a detailed design service is underway to secure sidewalk width while preserving as many parking spaces as possible for residents’ convenience, with decisions expected within this month.
The construction includes sidewalk maintenance and lighting environment improvements along both sides of the 3.8 km section. Sidewalks around the park will be paved with granite slabs (13a), residential areas with artificial granite blocks (19a), and gutters and curbs (2.7 km) will also be installed. Sixty-eight street lamps and twelve security lights will be replaced or newly installed to create a pleasant walking environment even after sunset.
The detailed construction quantities may change depending on the results of the second detailed design service.
To minimize obstacles on the trail, the district removed ten street trees located in the middle of the crosswalk. Consultations with related organizations and departments are ongoing to relocate utility poles and designated banner posting stands.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “Hyochang Park is a cultural heritage site designated as Historic Site No. 330 and also offers green space that is hard to find in the urban area. We will beautifully maintain the Hyochang Park Trail so that residents can enjoy a more pleasant walk.”
