LG Welfare Foundation announced on the 18th that it awarded the 'LG Hero Award' to three individuals: Lee Yebun (54), who has volunteered in beauty services for neighbors in need for 28 years; Lee Eunpil (37), who broke through flames at a traffic accident scene to rescue citizens; and Choi Inchang (62), who saved an elementary school student who had fallen into the water.
After obtaining her beautician license in 1995, Lee Yebun started volunteering at a child welfare facility in Ilsan, Goyang, encouraged by her elder brother, a pastor. Since then, she has volunteered at various places such as child welfare facilities, detention centers, and nursing homes. Recently, she has been regularly visiting a local children's center and a nursing home in Hwaseong. For elderly and disabled people with mobility difficulties, she visits their homes directly.
Lee said, "Having grown up watching my parents volunteer all their lives, volunteering is not a special event but a daily routine," adding, "I will continue my volunteer work as long as there are people who need my 'scissor hands.'"

Lee Eunpil was involved in a five-car pileup on the Cheonan-Nonsan Expressway in Cheonan, Chungnam, in June. Despite the accident, he escaped from his car immediately and rescued four people from other vehicles. At the time, a fire broke out in the accident vehicles, and most cars were completely burned, but thanks to Lee’s quick rescue and evacuation efforts, only some of the approximately 20 people in five vehicles were injured. Lee sustained torn leg muscles and cuts from broken glass fragments during the rescue.
Choi Inchang saw an elementary school student who fell into the sea near the coast of Gapado, Jeju, in June, unable to slow down his bicycle, and immediately jumped into the sea to rescue him. Despite suffering from myocardial infarction and spinal stenosis, Choi quickly saved the student. It was reported that the student was holding onto a rope connected to a boat at the pier after falling into the sea, which was about 3 meters deep.
An LG official explained the reason for selecting the LG Hero Award recipients, saying, "It is to encourage heroes who have devoted themselves and shown a spirit of service for their neighbors."
The LG Hero Award was established in 2015, reflecting the late Chairman Koo Bon-moo’s will that "a company should repay its social responsibility to heroes who sacrifice themselves for social justice." After Koo Kwang-mo became LG’s CEO in 2018, the award scope was expanded to include ordinary citizens. To date, a total of 197 people have received the LG Hero Award.
