Former Navy Captain Lee Geun, who punched a YouTuber after an argument while leaving a trial, has been referred to the prosecution on assault charges.
On the 22nd, the police announced that Lee was sent to the prosecution on assault charges on the 12th. On March 20, Lee got into an argument with YouTuber 'Gujeyeok' while leaving a trial at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
Afterwards, he punched Gujeyeok in the face, and outside the courtroom, he hit Gujeyeok's cellphone with his hand, causing it to fall. He is also accused of property damage and insult for verbally abusing Gujeyeok by saying, "Lose some weight."
At the time, Gujeyeok followed Lee, asking questions such as, "You've been a credit defaulter for six years; aren't you sorry to your creditors?" and "Aren't you sorry to your family?" before being verbally abused and assaulted.
Gujeyeok immediately reported the assault to 112 and filed a complaint against Lee for property damage and insult.
Meanwhile, Gujeyeok proposed a martial arts match to Lee, saying, "Regardless of the outcome, if you accept the proposal, I will never mention you again and will withdraw the assault charges."
Lee responded, "I accept the duel," adding, "There is only one condition. Delete the Gujeyeok YouTube channel now and send me a draft of the duel contract by email."
Later, in a pre-release video on a YouTube channel in May, Lee said, "Life is always noisy," and added, "For now, it is important to take revenge on everyone without exception, so I am preparing lawsuits one by one."
Previously, Lee was indicted in February last year for violating the Passport Act after participating in the Ukraine war following Russia's invasion. He stated that his actions were to join the international volunteer forces in the Ukraine war.
In July last year, he was also brought to trial for leaving the scene without providing aid after causing an accident with a motorcycle while driving in Seoul.
Lee denied the hit-and-run charges in court. His side stated, "He did not realize he had hit the victim with the vehicle and denies the charges."
