A man in his 40s who was crushed by a bundle of steel pipes around 8 a.m. on May 16 passed away after more than a month.
According to Changwon Jungbu Police Station and the Employment and Labor Office in Gyeongnam on the 22nd, Mr. A was working under a workbench with a 2.5-ton bundle of steel pipes at a steel factory in Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, replacing machine parts when he slipped and was crushed by the descending pipe bundle.
He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital following a report from a coworker and received treatment, but died on the afternoon of the 21st of this month.
The company in question is a workplace with more than 50 regular employees and is subject to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
The labor authorities issued a work suspension order to the company immediately after the accident and are investigating violations of safety obligation measures.
The police and labor authorities plan to investigate the person responsible for safety management for negligence in the workplace and violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Industrial Safety and Health Act to clarify the exact cause of death and consider filing charges against the responsible party.
