Dongjak-gu Operates 'Dongjak-ssam Mentoring' for Learning Guidance and Career Counseling
Recruiting University Student Mentors Until the 30th... One-on-One Learning and Career Mentoring with Students from Educationally Disadvantaged Groups
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Ilha) announced on the 22nd that it will operate the 'Academic Growth, Career Focus 2023 Dongjak-ssam Mentoring' program from July to reduce the learning gap among educationally disadvantaged groups.
'Dongjak-ssam Mentoring' is a program that matches students from educationally disadvantaged groups in the area with university student mentors one-on-one, providing customized learning and career exploration opportunities.
Any elementary, middle, or high school student who is from a vulnerable group such as basic livelihood security recipients or lower-income families and is experiencing learning difficulties can participate as a mentee.
The main components include ▲ learning mentoring to strengthen basic subject competencies ▲ career mentoring providing information on majors and college admission.
The program supports overall learning, including guidance on study habits to improve basic skills in Korean, English, and Math, and providing customized plans. It also addresses questions about major selection and college admission, and includes opportunities to tour campuses in person.
To operate Dongjak-ssam Mentoring, the district is recruiting university student mentors in the first round until the 30th, with the recruitment period subject to change depending on circumstances.
The recruitment target is currently enrolled or on leave university students residing in Seoul or attending universities located in Dongjak-gu. Applications can be submitted by visiting the Education Future Division of Dongjak-gu Office or via email.
Students selected as mentors will complete mandatory preliminary training and then perform their roles as youth mentors, receiving activity fees or volunteer hours as benefits for their mentoring activities.
Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “We hope that through Dongjak-ssam Mentoring, mentors and mentees will teach, learn, and grow together,” adding, “We will spare no support so that students from educationally disadvantaged groups can dream of and realize a better future.”
