Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding is regarded as the first and only successful overseas expansion case in the Korean shipbuilding industry. Established in 1996 as a joint venture between Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and the Vietnamese state-owned shipbuilding company, it initially engaged in repair and modification businesses. In the late 2000s, it shifted to new shipbuilding and has achieved remarkable growth, approaching 200 cumulative ship orders, establishing itself as the largest shipyard in Southeast Asia.
President Jung said, "The excellent results HD Hyundai has achieved in Vietnam are thanks to the employees who worked hard despite difficult conditions," adding, "I will also take pride and work together so that Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding can continue to write a successful legend representing the Korean shipbuilding industry."
Meanwhile, HD Hyundai showcased eco-friendly ship technologies and various solutions under the theme "A Clean Future Starting from the Sea" at the Korea-Vietnam Partnership Expo held at the National Convention Center in Hanoi on the same day.
