Jeonju Geunyeong Middle and Girls' High Schools Achieve 'Joint Victory' in National Volleyball Tournament

After 35 Years... Sweeping Personal Awards

The volleyball teams of Geunyeong Middle School and Geunyeong Girls' High School in Jeonju achieved the remarkable feat of winning championships together at a national tournament.


According to the Jeonbuk Sports Council (Chairman Jeong Gang-seon) on the 22nd, Geunyeong Middle and Girls' High Schools proudly demonstrated their volleyball prestige by clinching the championship at the recently held "2023 Jeongeup Naejangsan Cup National Middle and High School Volleyball Tournament" held throughout Jeongeup City.

This joint victory was the first in 35 years since 1988, making the cheers of triumph even more special.


In the tournament finals, Geunyeong Girls' High School defeated Seoul Jungang Girls' High School 3-2 in a full-set battle to claim the top spot in the competition.


Geunyeong Middle School also faced Seoul Ilsin Girls' Middle School in the finals and won 2-1, lifting the prestigious championship trophy.


The players not only achieved the joint championship but also swept numerous individual awards.


Choi Yu-rim, center of Geunyeong Girls' High School, was selected as the Most Valuable Player, while Bae Chae-eun received the Excellent Attack Award, Kim Ye-won the Attack Award, Jeong Min-seo the Setter Award, and Coach Kim Ui-seong was honored with the Coach Award.


Yoo Da-eun of Geunyeong Middle School was also chosen as the Most Valuable Player, with Hong Ji-yoon receiving the Excellent Attack Award, Oh Hyun-ah the Setter Award, and Coach Yang Cheol-ho selected for the Coach Award.


General Director Choi Woo-young said, "The players maintained their focus and gave their best until the end to achieve the joint championship," adding, "We are grateful to the chairman and the school for their active support of the volleyball teams."
