A man in his 40s, who was sentenced to prison four times for drug use charges but used drugs again, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
According to the Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam on the 22nd, Mr. A was prosecuted for using 0.03g of methamphetamine at a facility in Masanhwoewon-gu, Changwon City around 11 p.m. on March 1, and for possessing about 5.46g of marijuana and about 3.22g of methamphetamine, commonly called philopon, around the same time.
The court sentenced Mr. A to 2 years and 6 months in prison and ordered him to complete 40 hours of drug addiction rehabilitation education program.
The judge stated, “From 2013 to 2020, he was sentenced to prison four times for the same charges and committed the crime during the recidivism period of the same kind,” adding, “Drug crimes not only devastate an individual's body and mind but also have a significant negative impact on society as a whole, requiring strict punishment,” explaining the reason for the sentencing.
