At the 312th 1st regular meeting of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, the "Ordinance on the Protection and Support of Public Officials Performing Civil Service Duties in Seo-gu," proposed by Councilor Oh Miseop, was approved as originally drafted in the standing committee.
The ordinance aims to protect and support civil service workers handling civil complaints by stipulating necessary measures to prevent and heal physical and mental harm caused by unusual complaints such as verbal abuse and assault from complainants.
In particular, the ordinance was entirely revised to establish provisions for the protection and support of civil complaint handlers, renaming it the "Ordinance on the Protection and Support of Civil Complaint Handlers in Seo-gu," ensuring that all civil complaint handlers, including those dealing with unusual complaints, can work in a safe environment.
On the 22nd, Councilor Oh stated, "Through this ordinance, we have established a basis for supporting equipment such as wearable cameras to protect civil complaint handlers," adding, "We will carefully ensure that those working on the front lines handling civil complaints for residents can work in a safer environment."
