A woman in her 20s was arrested after being caught using drugs while under police investigation for fare evasion in a taxi.
On the 22nd, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced that they had booked a woman in her 20s, identified as Ms. A, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Ms. A was caught by the police on the 18th at around 2:10 a.m. for allegedly using drugs. She acted as if intoxicated at the police substation, but the breathalyzer showed no response, leading the police to suspect drug use. A rapid drug test showed a positive result.
Initially, Ms. A was being investigated at the police substation for fare evasion in a taxi, not for drug use. She had boarded a taxi in the food alley of Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, and asked to be taken to a provincial area, offering her mobile phone instead of money for the fare. The taxi driver, judging that Ms. A was unable to pay, headed to the police substation.
The police applied for an arrest warrant for Ms. A, which the court approved. A police official stated, "We plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the crime."
