Earlier, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Boston, USA, last April to promote a global joint business. Through this main contract, they will actively promote a hyper-personalized digital blood sugar management service business that combines blood sugar and lifestyle data in various countries including Korea, the United States, the Middle East, and Japan.

Kakao Healthcare plans to launch the digital blood sugar management service domestically in the fourth quarter. This service will be linked with Dexcom's next-generation CGM devices, 'Dexcom G7' and 'Dexcom G6.' Starting in 2024, they will intensify the global blood sugar management service business together with Dexcom.

Specifically, the two companies agreed to provide blood sugar management solutions by combining Kakao Healthcare's software and artificial intelligence (AI) technology capabilities with Dexcom's CGM hardware capabilities. Additionally, to expand CGM adoption, Kakao Healthcare will supply a dashboard system exclusively for medical professionals to support diabetes patient management. Through this, they aim to improve the quality of life for diabetes patients and those who need blood sugar management, as well as reduce socio-economic costs.

Dexcom is a global company that produces real-time continuous glucose monitors (RT-CGM). Dexcom's next-generation CGM, the Dexcom G7, is a device with a short enzyme activation period for blood sugar measurement and high measurement accuracy, and it is currently under medical device approval review by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The Dexcom G6 obtained approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in April 2020 and has been sold domestically since December of the same year.

Hwang Hee, CEO of Kakao Healthcare, stated, "Through the main contract with Dexcom in the United States, we can not only launch innovative blood sugar management services using CGM domestically but also promote entry into the global market." He emphasized, "As a member of Kakao, we will strive to improve public health in Korea and create social value, achieving the global advancement of K-digital healthcare."
