Yangcheon-gu, Complete Replacement of Sidewalk Blocks on 2km Section of Steep Slope Omok-ro
Pedestrian Environment Improvement Construction to be Carried Out by November on Steep Slopes Near Sinjeong Station with Frequent Slip Accidents
Old Cast Iron Manholes in the Middle of Sidewalks Replaced with Sidewalk Manholes to Improve Walking Environment and Street Aesthetics
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will carry out the "Omok-ro Pedestrian Environment Improvement Construction" from this month until November, replacing the old sidewalks in the steep slope area near Sinjeong Station with pavement materials that have a high slip resistance standard.
The maintenance target is a total of 1,920 meters from the Sinjeong Station area (Omok-ro 193) to the Forensic Science Research Institute Intersection (Omok-ro 1). This section has a steep slope, frequent slip accidents, and continuous complaints about pedestrian inconvenience, highlighting the need for improvement construction.
Accordingly, the district plans to replace the old and worn sidewalk blocks in the steep slope section with bright-colored sidewalk blocks that apply anti-slip techniques. In addition, the old cast iron manholes placed in the middle of the sidewalks, which obstruct walking and detract from street aesthetics, will be replaced with sidewalk manholes, and the side gutters (1,447m) for smooth drainage will also be reorganized.
Furthermore, concrete processed blocks will be used in flat and gently sloping areas within the maintenance section to enhance convenience for emergency repairs and maintenance.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "Through this improvement construction, Omok-ro, which has been inconvenient for pedestrians, is expected to achieve the dual benefits of landscape improvement and pedestrian safety," adding, "We will continue to promote customized sidewalk maintenance specialized for the terrain to provide safe and pleasant walking environments for residents."
