Incheon Road Network Construction Plan Service Launch... Linking to National Master Plans, Discovering National Subsidy Projects

Incheon City is launching a research project on road network development plans.

The city announced on the 2nd that it will start the "Incheon Road Network Development Plan Research Project" within this month to respond to changes in traffic demand conditions due to the paradigm shift in national road policies and various development projects.

This project will be conducted for the first time since Incheon was promoted to a metropolitan city in 1995. The Korea Transport Institute has been appointed as the executing agency, and the project is scheduled to be completed by May 2025.

Through this project, the city will review road network development plans focusing on linking with higher-level plans established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, such as the "3rd Expressway Construction Plan," the "6th National and Local Road Construction Plan," the "5th Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Implementation Plan," and the "5th Metropolitan Area Traffic Congestion Road Improvement Project Plan."

The aim is to discover national or nationally subsidized projects in connection with these national higher-level plans.

The key review items include ▲ construction of the east-west axis 4th Gyeongin Expressway (Incheon Port to Seoul Guro), expansion of Aam-daero (Songdo IC to Neunghae IC) ▲ construction of the north-south axis Songdo to Geomdan road, utilization of the lower space of the 1st Capital Region Circular Road ▲ construction of a city hall-centered radial underground road linked with the metropolitan arterial circulation network (Wolgok Junction to Songdo Junction to Bukcheongra Junction to Nooji Junction) ▲ expansion of the northern area road network, connection of disconnected sections, enhancement of railway station accessibility, and connection between expressways and general roads.

The city also plans to focus on expanding the road network to support various development projects such as Jemulpo Renaissance, New Hong Kong City, and the Northern Area Comprehensive Development Plan, which are key pledges of the 8th local government administration.

An official from Incheon City stated, "By establishing a data-based road network plan through this project, we will secure logical validity and concretize commercialization plans."
