Shinhan Bank has decided to contribute a total of 30 billion KRW over three years to support victims of voice phishing and prevent related crimes.
On the 2nd, Shinhan Bank and the Community Chest of Korea signed a business agreement on voice phishing damage prevention at the Community Chest of Korea in Jeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.
Shinhan Bank plans to provide living expense support worth 18 billion KRW to assist vulnerable groups affected by voice phishing. Approximately 6,000 people will receive 3 million KRW each. Additionally, a project worth 1.5 billion KRW will be carried out to provide voice phishing prevention education and insurance.
To prevent secondary damage such as depression among victims, 3 billion KRW will be allocated to provide psychological and legal counseling. Furthermore, 7.5 billion KRW will be invested in projects for promotion using prevention content and policy development.
Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, also attended the business agreement ceremony and said, "As the economic slowdown becomes more apparent along with high interest rates and high inflation, the difficulties faced by the public are increasing. I hope this social contribution project will serve as a catalyst for win-win finance and expand throughout our society."
The Governor added, "If financial authorities actively reward achievements in voice phishing prevention, it will motivate branches to block voice phishing damage," and stated that various suggestions from panelists regarding education, promotion, and rewards will be actively reflected in voice phishing prevention work.
Jin Ok-dong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, said, "This project was undertaken to provide practical help to financial consumers suffering from voice phishing damage," and added, "Through meticulous support and prevention efforts for voice phishing victims, we will spread positive influence as a corporate citizen."
