Daegu City Council member Park So-young (People Power Party, Dong-gu 2) plans to urge the reconstruction of the regional economy through the construction of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport by laying the groundwork for key tasks that will determine Daegu's future for the next 50 years, taking advantage of the passage of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Special Act, during a 5-minute free speech at the 2nd plenary session of the extraordinary meeting to be held on the 4th.

In the summary of her 5-minute free speech released on the 2nd, Daegu City Council member Park So-young evaluated, “The passage of the New Airport Construction Special Act, which was originally proposed by Mayor Hong Joon-pyo in September 2020, through the National Assembly plenary session after two and a half years was greatly due to Mayor Hong Joon-pyo’s outstanding leadership and guidance.”

Councilor Park continued, “The passage of the special act is the result of the consistent efforts of the Integrated New Airport Relocation Daegu Citizens Promotion Group for the relocation of the military airport and expansion of the civilian airport, as well as the residents near K2 Airport who have endured much suffering such as damage to property rights due to fighter jet noise and altitude restrictions,” and argued, “Residents should not be continuously forced to make unilateral sacrifices until the completion of the new airport, which will not be short.”

She also warmly welcomed the development direction of the airport site being set as a Dubai-style development that never sleeps 24 hours, focusing on advanced industries and tourism, and expressed the view that a definite reconstruction of the regional economy is necessary by forming a metropolitan economic zone through the advancement of industrial structure, the establishment of a metropolitan railway network, and the expansion of transportation infrastructure through Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

Daegu City Council member Park So-young said, “The construction of the new airport and the development of the airport site will not only be an opportunity for Daegu to leap forward as a global economic city representing the central and southern regions, but also a sufficient foundation to establish its status as a global tourist city and commercial city,” adding, “I urge the establishment of plans and project promotion with a sense of historical responsibility that will not be shameful to future generations, and the City Council will also do its best to successfully promote the project under the leadership of Chairman Lee Man-gyu.”
