The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 30th that it has "no official position" regarding the prosecution's search and seizure of former leader Song Young-gil in connection with the money envelope allegations at the party convention.
On the same day, Kwon Chil-seung, the party's chief spokesperson, told reporters after a briefing, "There may be individual opinions among the lawmakers, but as a spokesperson, I have nothing to say," expressing this stance.
Regarding calls for a party-level fact-finding investigation, he said, "There has been no change in policy yet."
Concerning Park Kwang-on, the floor leader elected on the 28th, stating in his inaugural remarks that he would hold a party meeting about the money envelope controversy at the convention, Kwon said, "There has been no mention of a specific schedule. It has not been discussed."
Right after his election, Floor Leader Park said, "Attitude is the essence. While we are aware of the seriousness surrounding us, I believe the public is more concerned about how our party views and handles this issue?it's a matter of attitude." He added, "I will do my best to hold a party meeting as soon as possible to find a truly wise solution to this problem." He also said, "I will listen to and respect each member's opinion overnight if necessary and gather consensus. Then, I will report to the public."
At the May extraordinary session of the National Assembly, the Yellow Envelope Act is expected to be a key bill.
Chief Spokesperson Kwon said, "This time, regardless of party lines, various bills related to real estate (jeonse) fraud are being worked on together, and the bill that could become a point of contention might be the Yellow Envelope Act."
