The Democratic Party of Korea stated regarding the People Power Party's Ethics Committee meeting scheduled for the 1st of next month, "The subjects of judgment are the 'malicious remarks duo' Supreme Councilors Kim Jae-won and Tae Young-ho, who have provoked public anger with all kinds of offensive remarks," and added, "They must offer a sincere apology."
At a briefing that day, Kwon Chil-seung, the Democratic Party's chief spokesperson, criticized, "Supreme Councilor Tae Young-ho caused great pain to the residents with his outrageous remark that 'the Jeju 4.3 Incident was triggered under Kim Il-sung's orders.' He also repeatedly made incomprehensible statements such as claiming 'Kim Gu was outwitted by Kim Il-sung's united front strategy' and evaluating the Japanese diplomatic white paper asserting sovereignty over Dokdo as a 'sign of improved Korea-Japan relations.'"
He pointed out, "Despite this, instead of showing remorse, he rather maintains a proud attitude, saying 'My evaluation of history is my conviction.'"
Regarding Supreme Councilor Kim Jae-won, he criticized, "He has openly revealed extreme right-wing views such as opposing the inclusion of the May 18 Democratic Uprising spirit in the preamble of the Constitution and calling the Jeju 4.3 Memorial Day a low-level commemorative day, and shocked the public with remarks like 'Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon’s right-wing unification of the world.'"
Spokesperson Kwon emphasized, "Before explaining themselves to the People Power Party Ethics Committee, these two must sincerely apologize to the hurt public. Former leader Lee Jun-seok was suspended from party membership for one year for criticizing the president with the phrase 'a wolf in sheep's clothing.' The public's judgment on whose wrongdoing is heavier between former leader Lee and the malicious remarks duo has already been concluded."
He added, "We hope the People Power Party Ethics Committee will impose appropriate disciplinary actions so that our politics can regain 'at least a minimum level of dignity.'"
The People Power Party will hold a meeting of the newly launched Central Party Ethics Committee under the leadership of Representative Kim Ki-hyun on the 1st.
The Ethics Committee is expected to discuss whether to discipline Supreme Councilors Kim Jae-won and Tae Young-ho, who have caused controversies with a series of verbal scandals.
