An intellectually disabled person who stabbed a fellow disabled person with a weapon in an attempt to escape from a residential facility for the disabled was sentenced to imprisonment.

According to the Criminal Division 4 of Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam on the 30th, Mr. A, a man in his 30s with severe intellectual disability, was indicted last November for stabbing Mr. B, a man in his 50s with a disability, with a weapon in the living room of a residential facility for the disabled in Gyeongnam.

The court sentenced Mr. A, who was tried on charges of attempted murder, to five years in prison.

It was revealed that Mr. A thought the residential facility for the disabled was suffocating and frustrating, and believed that causing a major incident was the only way to escape, so he stabbed Mr. B, with whom he had no prior grudge, with a weapon.

During the police investigation, he also stated that he wanted to stab Mr. B because of his large physique.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Although Mr. A has a mental disability, the nature of the crime is very serious," and "Although Mr. B reportedly said he wanted to see Mr. A, it is questionable whether Mr. B truly forgave Mr. A as an intellectually disabled person."
