Volunteer Firefighters Play Key Role in Extinguishing Fire at Jeju Dongmun Market

Jeju Fire Station announced on the 30th that on the 22nd, a fire of unknown cause broke out, and market merchants along with Dongmun Market's specialized volunteer firefighters played a significant role in the initial fire suppression.

According to the fire department, the fire started on the afternoon of the 22nd in a pile of waste paper about 2 meters high outside the building.

Nearby merchants and Dongmun Market's specialized volunteer firefighters confirmed the fire and used fire extinguishers to carry out initial suppression.

They then proceeded to use the outdoor fire hydrant located within the market to fight the fire.

Thanks to the emergency fire extinguishing equipment installed for initial response before the fire trucks arrived and the merchants' active initial response, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within about 5 minutes of their arrival.

Meanwhile, Jeju Fire Station operates a "Store Inspection Day" at traditional markets every month to strengthen merchant-led voluntary safety inspections for fire prevention and promotes various fire safety education in fields such as firefighting, electricity, and gas to ensure initial response in case of fire.
