Guests traveled from afar to refer to the excellent case of the Jangseong-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee in Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do. On the 21st, about 20 members of the Wando-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee and Jo Young-sik, Vice Chairman of the Wando County Council, visited the Jangseong-eup Residents' Autonomy Center.
Starting as a Residents' Autonomy Committee in 2004, the Jangseong-eup Residents' Autonomy Association transitioned to a Residents' Autonomy Association in 2021 and has been actively engaged in holding residents' general meetings and leading various volunteer activities.
In particular, the second term of the Jangseong-eup Residents' Autonomy Association, launched this year, has doubled the number of participating members and set a model precedent by conducting the election of the chairman and executives through a nomination process.
At this event, Ki Se-yeon, chairman of the Jangseong-eup Residents' Autonomy Association, emphasized the importance of holding residents' general meetings, stating, “A participatory platform must be formed where residents themselves discover and select projects necessary for the village.”
In response, Yoo Seung-jin, chairman of the Wando-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee, said on the 30th, “Through the visit to Jangseong-eup, I was able to think more deeply about residents' autonomy,” and added, “Wando-eup will also actively collect residents' opinions and take the lead in solving local issues.”
Go Hak-ju, mayor of Jangseong-eup, who gave the welcoming speech, said, “I deeply appreciate your visit to Jangseong-eup for the development of residents' autonomy,” and added, “I hope today's visit will be of great help to the development of residents' autonomy in Wando-eup.”
