If You Die in a Fire While Volunteering, Insurance Payout of 200 Million Won

On the 30th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that from May, social disaster death insurance and traffic accident settlement support will be newly established to cover damages that volunteers may suffer during volunteer activities.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated that it has signed a new contract for the 2023 Comprehensive Volunteer Insurance containing these provisions, which will be implemented starting next month on the 1st.

The social disaster death insurance pays 200 million KRW in the event of death caused by major social disasters such as fire, explosion, or collapse during volunteer activities.

The traffic accident settlement support provides up to 50 million KRW in criminal settlement money if a volunteer causes death or injury to others in a car accident during volunteer activities.

Meanwhile, the insurance applies to all volunteers nationwide who suffer damages during volunteer activities recognized by implementing organizations such as 245 volunteer centers across the country, the Korea National Council on Social Welfare, and the Korea Youth Activity Promotion Agency.
