Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) will operate various programs including education, performances, and exhibitions utilizing local cultural heritage through the ‘2023 Local Cultural Heritage Utilization Project’ until December.

The project, a Cultural Heritage Administration public contest initiative, consists of the ‘Vivid Cultural Heritage’ project centered on Seoul Hoamsanseong Fortress and the ‘Traditional Temple Cultural Heritage’ project centered on the traditional temple Hoapsa and the seated stone Buddha statue. The executing organization is the Education Sharing Cooperative, a village project specialist group.

Through this project, Geumcheon-gu plans to re-examine the cultural heritage value of Seoul Hoamsanseong Fortress (Historic Site No. 343) and the Hoapsa Seated Stone Buddha Statue (Seoul City Cultural Property No. 8).

In the Vivid Cultural Heritage project, under the theme "Seoul Hoamsanseong Fortress, Wanting to Know That Place," programs such as Hoamsanseong School, Season 3 of "I Promote Hoamsanseong," Hoamsanseong Vivid Festival, and Happy Walking on the Two-Birds-One-Stone Hoamsanseong Trail will be conducted, including exploration, experience, education, exhibitions, and performance festivals.

Since 2021, "I Promote Hoamsanseong" has been a contest for residents to submit works such as paintings, photos, and poems. After the contest, outstanding works are exhibited in the pine forest of Hoam Neulsogil to widely promote the value and history of Seoul Hoamsanseong Fortress.

The Traditional Temple Cultural Heritage project, themed "Healing and Wishes with the Medicine Buddha (Yaksa Buddha) at Hoapsa Temple Cultural Tour," includes programs such as "Meeting Hoapsa through Puppet Theater," "Meet the Healing Medicine Buddha!," and "Temple Humanities - Conversations with the Head Monk and Temple Music Concert," offering temple culture experiences, healing, and humanities lectures.

This project was prepared to enhance the cultural identity of Geumcheon-gu residents and provide opportunities for cultural enjoyment through the story of Hoapsa, the only traditional temple in Geumcheon-gu with patriotic spirit as a protective temple contributing to the founding of the Joseon Dynasty.

The programs will run from April to December, and detailed inquiries and participation applications can be made through the Education Sharing Cooperative internet cafe.

Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope many residents enjoy our cultural heritage and have time to heal their minds through various cultural heritage utilization programs," adding, "We will continue to promote the Hoamsanseong cultural heritage maintenance project and regionally tailored cultural heritage utilization projects to advance Geumcheon-gu as a historic cultural city."
