Seoul District Mayors Association Highlights Future Education Prospects and Role of Local Governments

'Local Governments and Future Education' Theme for the '2023 Future Education Forum'

The Seoul Association of District Mayors (President Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu) and Seodaemun-gu jointly held the '2023 Future Education Forum' on the afternoon of the 28th at Yonsei University Baekyangnurikan, under the theme of 'Local Governments and Future Education.'

About 70 participants, including Seoul district mayors, education experts, and public officials, attended the forum held to forecast future education and highlight the role of local governments.

They watched a video titled 'Rapidly Changing Future Era, New Education Policies and the Role of Autonomous Districts' together and shared a consensus on the direction of future education.

Professor Jang Wonseop of Yonsei University's Department of Education presented the keynote speech titled 'The Path to Fostering Healthy Citizens: Focusing on Janginseong (匠人性),' proposing the future talent model that our society should cultivate.

Following this, Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, and Choi Hogwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, gave presentations on the vision for future education and the direction of autonomous district education policies.

During the comprehensive discussion session led by Mayor Lee Seongheon, all attendees freely asked and answered questions, sharing their thoughts on future education.

They agreed that 'autonomous districts should not remain at the level of support but must establish education policies linked with regional coexistence, and a horizontal cooperation system among the government, Seoul city, autonomous districts, education offices, and schools must be built.'

At the 'Future Education Performance,' all participants unfolded fans featuring calligraphy by artist Kim Soyoung with the phrase 'Changes in Education Opening the Future, Our United Strength.'

On this day, Lee Seongheon, President of the Seoul Association of District Mayors, emphasized, "In-depth education policies at the autonomous district level are necessary due to rapid changes in the educational environment, and it is important to integratively lead community and educational development."
