A terminal cancer patient who made payments worth 7.2 million won using a stolen card was sentenced to a fine in the first trial.
According to the legal community on the 29th, Judge Jeong Cheol-min of the Criminal Division 7 at the Seoul Western District Court sentenced A (48, male), who was tried on charges of fraud, theft, and violation of the Specialized Credit Finance Business Act, to a fine of 7 million won on the 6th.
The court stated, "Although the damage amounting to 7,221,600 won is not insignificant and the victim's loss has not been fully recovered, there are unfavorable circumstances," but added, "The defendant's mother deposited 2 million won in criminal escrow for the victim, and the defendant is a stage 4 liver cancer patient in very poor health," explaining the reasons for sentencing.
A is accused of stealing victim B's card from a POS terminal at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on June 27 last year, when no one was at the counter, and using it seven times to spend a total of 7,221,600 won.
