On the 28th, the Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced that singer Jeong Dong-won (16) was sent to the prosecution without detention on the 24th for riding a motorcycle on a road designated for automobiles only, violating the Road Traffic Act.
The police initially intended to refer Jeong Dong-won to the Youth Guidance Deliberation Committee, considering that he is a minor and a first-time offender. However, it was explained that Jeong Dong-won's side did not accept this.
It was reported that he felt burdened by the process of having to appear in person before the committee and give a statement.
The Youth Guidance Deliberation Committee is a system established to help juvenile suspects (aged 14 to 18) who have committed minor offenses. If the committee issues a warning or summary judgment, no criminal record is recorded.
Jeong Dong-won was caught by police on the spot on the 23rd of last month near Gunja Bridge in the Seongsu direction of the Dongbu Expressway while riding a motorcycle. According to the Road Traffic Act, motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles traveling on highways or roads designated for automobiles only are subject to a fine of up to 300,000 won or detention.
Jeong Dong-won gained popularity by appearing on TV Chosun's survival entertainment program 'Tomorrow is Mr. Trot.'
