Jeonnam Police, Proactive Measures to Prevent Accidents Involving Elderly

Agreement Signed for Elderly Traffic Accident Prevention Cooperation

Jeonnam Police and the Jeonnam Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association (President Jeong Yang-su) announced on the 28th that they signed a business agreement to prevent accidents involving the elderly at the 3rd-floor conference room of the Jeonnam Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association.

This agreement was established in response to Jeonnam entering a super-aged society (24.7% of Jeonnam's population) and aims for the Jeonnam Police Agency and the Jeonnam Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association to cooperate in discovering collaborative projects for traffic safety, education, and promotion for the elderly, proactively preventing traffic accidents, and thereby improving traffic safety for senior residents of the province.

Jeong Yang-su, President of the Jeonnam Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, stated, “I am pleased to sign this agreement with the Jeonnam Police Agency to prevent accidents involving the elderly,” and added, “We will work closely with the Jeonnam Police Agency through this event to ensure that no senior citizens suffer unfortunate accidents.”

Following this agreement, the Jeonnam Police Agency will prioritize the elderly and other vulnerable road users when establishing traffic policies.

Additionally, they plan to actively support cooperative projects to enhance elderly traffic safety by providing instructors and educational materials for safe walking education and promotional activities for the elderly.

The Korean Senior Citizens Association will promote various welfare projects, including traffic safety education for seniors, in collaboration with the Jeonnam Police Agency, and will cooperate to enable ‘senior leaders’ to play the role of traffic safety leaders through capacity-building education.

Lee Chung-ho, Chief of the Jeonnam Police Agency, said, “We will focus on building a traffic environment and fostering a safe traffic culture so that all elderly citizens can travel comfortably and safely anytime and anywhere.”
