Installation of a Total of 4 Underground Fire Hydrants at 3 Locations: Inheon, Sinsa, and Sinwon Markets in Gwanak-gu
Underground Installation Helps Rapid Initial Fire Suppression in Traditional Markets Difficult for Fire Trucks to Access
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has installed 'underground fire hydrants' to enable rapid initial fire suppression in traditional markets where fire truck access is difficult.
Since traditional markets have densely packed stores and are at risk of large-scale fires in case of fire, the district, with the cooperation of Gwanak Fire Station, has completed the installation of 'underground fire hydrants' at 4 points within 3 traditional markets: ▲Inheon Market ▲Sinsa Market ▲Sinwon Market.
Unlike conventional above-ground fire hydrants, the underground fire hydrants are installed below ground level. Users open the hydrant cover and pull out the hose for use. The operation is simple, allowing anyone to use it easily.
Additionally, being installed underground means they do not obstruct pedestrian traffic during normal times.
On April 28, a training session and demonstration on how to use the underground fire hydrants were held for market merchants at Sinsa Market to raise awareness of fire prevention and the importance of initial fire suppression in traditional markets.
At the demonstration, Mayor Park Junhee stated, “Prevention and initial response are most important in fire incidents. We expect that using underground fire hydrants will enable rapid initial fire suppression when fires occur, and we will continue to make multifaceted efforts to create a safer Gwanak free from fire hazards.”
