Over the past three years, Mokpo Maritime Police has used patrol vessels and helicopters to urgently transport a total of 1,140 emergency patients to land (951 from islands, 189 from the sea), among whom 210 were emergency patients from Jindo Jodo, accounting for the largest proportion of island emergency patients during the same period.
At the visits to the Jodo township office and health center, Chief Kim said, “Due to population aging, the number of emergency patient cases in the island areas under our jurisdiction is increasing every year,” and added, “Let us strengthen mutual cooperation among related organizations to provide medical services so that island residents are not left behind.”
Chief Kim also visited the home of elderly patient A (female in her 70s), who suffered complex fractures from a fall accident in Jindo Jodo last December and was urgently transported by the maritime police, inquiring about her health and wishing her a speedy recovery.
Ms. A expressed her gratitude, saying, “At the time of the accident, I was in a state of confusion, but thanks to the maritime police who came to visit me personally today to check on me and offer comfort, I believe I can recover quickly.”
Meanwhile, Chief Kim presented a letter of appreciation to the Yulmok Fishing Cooperative (Chief Park Seong-bok), expressing gratitude for the active support of the ‘Civilian Maritime Rescue Team,’ which serves as a hidden helper of the maritime police in various emergencies including emergency patient transport.
Chief Kim stated, “Through prompt first aid and safe transport, we will do our best to overcome the geographical limitations of the island areas and protect the precious lives of island residents.”
As of April, Mokpo Maritime Police is maintaining a state of readiness for rescue and first aid by urgently transporting 93 emergency patients from islands and the sea to the mainland using patrol vessels and helicopters.
