Lighting Ceremony of the Buddha's Birthday Celebration Tower Held at Changwon Plaza

On the 27th at 7 p.m., Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held a lighting ceremony for the Buddhist Celebration Tower to commemorate Buddha's Birthday in the year 2567 of the Buddhist calendar, hosted by the Changwon Special City Buddhist Association, at Changwon Square, the city announced on the 28th.

The lighting ceremony was attended by about 200 citizens and began with the Three Refuges ritual and the recitation of the Heart Sutra in Hangul, followed by the lighting of the celebration tower and a circumambulation of the tower. The Buddhist Celebration Tower, installed by the Changwon Special City Buddhist Association in front of Changwon City Hall Plaza, will remain lit until May 27, the date of Buddha's Birthday.

Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “On the occasion of Buddha's Birthday in the year 2567 of the Buddhist calendar, I reflect on the Buddhist teachings and the true meaning of Buddha that are necessary for public officials,” adding, “I hope that the light of Buddha will accompany every step as we move toward becoming a central city in Northeast Asia.”
