Ulsan City, Education Office, Police, Prosecutors, Hospitals, and Pharmacists Association Sign Business Agreement

Ulsan City has declared itself a "Drug-Free City" and has begun establishing prevention and treatment systems. This means responding to drugs through a comprehensive drug eradication system involving local governments, education, judicial, and medical institutions.

On the 28th, Ulsan City announced that it will declare itself a "Drug-Free City" and take measures to address the nationwide issues of illegal drug manufacturing, distribution, and use.

At 11 a.m. on the same day, Ulsan City plans to sign a business agreement in the mayor's office with the City Office of Education, Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office, Ulsan Police Agency, Ulsan Coast Guard, Mothers Hospital, and Ulsan Pharmaceutical Association to create a drug-free Ulsan.

According to this agreement, Ulsan City will support budgets for publicity and treatment and protection of addicts, while the Office of Education and the Pharmaceutical Association will be responsible for prevention education.

The prosecution and police will be responsible for blocking illegal distribution, investigating and arresting drug offenders, and issuing addiction treatment protection orders for drug offenders. Mothers Hospital will support social reintegration through treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts.

Following the agreement ceremony, from 3 p.m., about 100 participants including representatives from the agreement institutions and public health center staff will conduct an "Illegal Drug Eradication Campaign" around the Wangbeodeul Square in Taehwagang National Garden.

An official from Ulsan City said, "Through this agreement, we will strengthen and maintain cooperation systems with each institution to make Ulsan a 'Drug-Free City' that is safe from drugs."

Over the past five years, drug offenders in Ulsan City have steadily increased, with a total of 220 offenders in 2022, which is double the average of 110 offenders over the previous four years.

On December 29, 2022, Ulsan City enacted the "Ulsan Metropolitan City Ordinance on Prevention of Drug and Harmful Substance Abuse and Support for Addiction Treatment" to carry out prevention activities against the misuse of drugs and harmful substances, and has established and is implementing a prevention plan for drug and harmful substance abuse.
