The previous building was constructed in the 1970s and had become outdated and cramped. Additionally, the entire building was tilted toward the entrance, raising concerns about building safety and poor working conditions, as well as a lack of parking space.
The new building is a five-story structure above ground with one basement level, and remodeling took place over five months starting from November last year. The basement and the first to third floors house the Eulji Police Substation, while the fourth and fifth floors accommodate the Traffic Center.
The jurisdiction of the new Eulji Police Substation covers Gwanghui-dong and parts of Euljiro-dong in Jung-gu, Seoul. The area includes shopping districts such as Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and the Central Asia Street frequented by foreigners, with a floating population reaching approximately 100,000 people. It is known to have a high demand for public safety services.
Chief Choi said, "The officers at the Eulji Police Substation have worked hard for residents despite difficult conditions," adding, "With the new building in place, I hope they can focus on local security with peace of mind." He also stated, "This year, efforts are needed to strengthen cooperative policing with residents, which was disrupted due to COVID-19, and to enhance citizens' sense of safety," and pledged, "We will continue to work tirelessly for the safety of Jung-gu."
