McLaren Appoints Former Bentley and Aston Martin Designer as Chief Design Officer

McLaren Automotive announced on the 28th that Tobias Schulman has been appointed as McLaren's new Chief Design Officer (CDO). His official activities will begin in September this year.


CDO Tobias Schulman has held positions such as Head of Design at Bentley, and Head of Exterior Design at Bugatti and Aston Martin. He has accumulated 20 years of experience in the automotive design field.

Before joining McLaren, Schulman served as Senior Designer for McLaren's Special Projects and was responsible for the design of the Solus GT. The Solus GT is a track-only, single-seater hypercar that brings to life the virtual reality McLaren concept car featured in the racing game "Gran Turismo Sport."


He will lead the design team at McLaren Technology Centre in Surrey, UK. He will also be responsible for customization tasks, communicating with vehicle buyers before production takes place at the production center.

Schulman is an expert who successfully led the innovative Solus GT project from inception to completion and has a deep understanding of McLaren.” He added, “He will play a leading role in applying a new design language to the portfolio currently under development as part of McLaren’s high-performance business strategy.”
