Park Sang-hyun recorded six birdies and one bogey. After reducing three strokes on the front nine with birdies on holes 15, 17, and 18, he made a birdie on the 3rd hole (par 5) but lost one stroke with a bogey on the 4th hole (par 4) on the back nine, then secured 'stepping stone birdies' on the 7th and 9th holes. Park Sang-hyun's best individual result on the DP World Tour is 3rd place at the Valentine Championship held in Korea in 2011. This year's Korea Championship is the first DP World Tour event held domestically in 10 years since 2013.

Park Sang-hyun is a star player with a total of 11 wins on the KPGA Korean Tour. After winning the DB Insurance Promy Open in April last year, he has also lit a green light for a Korean Tour victory after one year.

Park Sang-hyun expressed his satisfaction, saying, "I am satisfied to finish the first round with a good score," adding, "The pin positions are difficult and the greens are hard, but my short game was well executed, which was the key to the good result." He continued, "The skills of Korean Tour players have improved, so winning is definitely possible," and predicted, "There is a forecast of rain in the third round. The winning score will be around 15 under par."
