LG Uplus has once again apologized for the personal information leak incident and announced that it will strengthen related measures, including increasing investment in information security.
On the 27th, LG Uplus issued a statement saying, "We have taken the matter seriously from the time the incident occurred and will prioritize the corrective actions required by the Ministry of Science and ICT's cause analysis results at the company-wide level."
It added, "In February, we established a Cyber Safety Innovation Promotion Team directly under the CEO, and we are working on strengthening information protection through asset protection against cyber attacks and infrastructure advancement, enhancing personal information management systems, and improving information security levels," adding, "We are also making a large-scale investment of around 100 billion KRW for this purpose."
Furthermore, it stated, "We have established and are implementing detailed tasks such as vulnerability inspections and strengthening technical preventive activities using external experts like white-hat hackers, building an AI-based personal information detection system, and advancing IT service abnormal behavior monitoring systems."
LG Uplus said, "We are operating an Information Security Advisory Committee composed of external expert groups, conducting research and investment in future security technologies, and fostering cybersecurity professionals in collaboration with universities and other educational institutions," and apologized again to customers who experienced anxiety and inconvenience due to the information leak and internet connection errors.
Earlier that morning, the government announced the results of the cause analysis and countermeasures for the LG Uplus breach incident, pointing out that LG Uplus did not have a system to monitor abnormal activities such as large-scale customer data leaks in real time, nor did it have security equipment to detect and block DDoS attacks. As a result, personal information of approximately 290,000 people was leaked, and disruptions occurred in wired internet, VOD, and 070 phone services.
