Catching Two Rabbits: Health and Tourism Combined

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it will hold the non-face-to-face trail program ‘2023 Trail Korea Suncheon’ on three courses from May 1 to August 31.


Recently favored by the younger generation, ‘trail’ is an activity of walking on unpaved paths that promotes health and tourism, establishing itself as a new travel trend and a representative sports tourism.

This year’s event, the second edition, is held under the catchphrase “Let’s go, my way,” where participants choose one of the three trail courses according to their preference and difficulty level, complete the trail individually, and certify their completion.


The first course of ‘2023 Trail Korea Suncheon’ is a 16km section of the Bonghwasan Dulle-gil trail connecting Suncheon Station → Jukdobong Park → Saengmokan-gol → Updong Reservoir. The second course is a 6km section from Nagan Oncheon → Geumjeonsan → Nagan Natural Recreation Forest, covering Nagan Eupseong Fortress and Geumjeonsan. The third course is a 7km round trip from Haechang Village → Gokgosan → Aengmusan.


Those wishing to participate can apply and certify completion through the digital running platform app ‘Runable’.


Suncheon City will provide finishers of the trail event with a completion medal at the Suncheon Station Tourist Information Center and offer night admission tickets to the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo to the first 1,000 finishers.


Additionally, all participants will receive souvenirs including handkerchiefs, badges, and tourist guides, along with discounts on admission to Suncheon’s representative tourist sites such as Nagan Eupseong Fortress and the drama filming location.


A Suncheon City official said, “We have hosted the trail event, which has established itself as a new sports activity in connection with the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo. As this region offers various attractions and activities suited to the tastes of all ages including the MZ generation, as well as the best food in the Namdo area, we ask for much interest in this event.”
